御幣を玄関に掲げて、魔を祓いましょう。

Toshigami (Deity of the incoming year) will be welcomed on New Years.
And December is the month of preparation for the New Year. In order to welcome the Toshigami to the New Year, it’s customary to put the Gohei (a wand decorated with paper streamers) at the front door to exorcise the devil.
